This is part of the book series Dark Carpathians from Christine Feehan. The first book is Dark Prince, which I can recommend reading first, the best way is to read this series in order. Not only because I love reading series in order, but sometimes some things that are happening within the book can be explained or understood better when the series have been read from Dark #1. Reviews of the other books in the series are coming, but I like to start with recent read books so I can make honest reviews.
Let me say first that I absolutely love the Dark Carpathian series, I love Paranormal Romance and I love their HEA’s and how everyone gets there. The way the characters evolve from book one and how some Carpathians are more in the modern world than others is amazing to read. The side story, the plot is quite good and entertaining and leaves me always wanting to read more.
Dominic, of the Dragonseeker lineage—one of the most powerful of the Carpathian lines—is desperate to go to the very heart of the enemy camp and learn their plans. There’s only one way to do so: ingest the parasitic blood of a vampire. He knows that it is a mission from which there is no return. With little time before the blood takes effect, he’ll get the information he needs, relay it to the leader of the Carpathians, and go out fighting. There is no more honorable way to end his life.
Solange Sangria is one of the last of the jaguar people, a royal pureblood, a dying species that cannot recover from bad decisions made over hundreds of years. She has long been alone, fighting to save the remaining shapeshifters from the hands of Brodrick the Terrible: her own father, who slaughtered her family and everyone she loved. Wounded and weary, she plans one last battle, hoping to stop the man who has made an alliance with the vampires, accepting that she will not come out alive.
They are two warriors who have lived their lives alone. Now, at the end of their time, they find each other—an obstacle neither can hope to ignore.
This was a very interesting read to be honest. I found it a bit slow in the beginning, but it made up for it and I understood why.
I always hoped Solange would find her Carpathian, she’s been through so much and who other than Dominic to take the fear of men away. The way Dominic respected her, as a female and as a warrior was quite
refreshing. What I really found interesting is their blood exchange. How she’s fully being brought into the Carpathian world, or is it what is happening with Dominic during their exchange… very interesting and can result in some very nice stories on how to save the Carpathian race from extinction.
The plot with the Vampires and the Masters is very interesting I find, how they have evolved from being solo threats to group threats and how they are being (mis)lead by some Master vampires to get to their goal: To kill the Prince and the Carpathians and any other (shapeshifter)race that might mingle with the Carpathians.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can highly recommend it and like I said before; start with Dark #1 to understand why some things are happening.
