Recent college graduate Avery Andrews is ready to begin a new life in the big city. She’s landed an apartment in Chicago’s famed Lincoln Park neighborhood–and has her eye on the cute commodity trader just a floor above.
If Premier Airlines knew about her fear of flying, they never would have hired her to be their marketing assistant—but it’s not like Avery wants a lifelong career. Right now she simply wants a job to pay her bills . . . and fund a few little shopping excursions, too.
Her new lifestyle comes with a price tag, as Avery is not only faced with paying a ridiculous rent but finds she’s perceived as one of the vacant, husband-hunting fashionistas who live in the area. Avery resents this stereotype. So she doesn’t want a lifelong career, and she loves fashions she can’t afford, but that doesn’t mean she is empty-headed and spoiled, does it?
When an opportunity to participate in a documentary at work arises, Avery finds a two-fold solution to her problems. She’ll earn extra money for it, and the documentary will show her as a serious career woman, enabling her to shed that husband-hunting fashionista label for good.
When the camera is on, Avery attempts to be a motivated professional woman. But when she is challenged by Deacon Ryan, the videographer assigned to cover her story, Avery finds herself wanting things she was never supposed to want—like a lasting career—and Deacon. And Avery might just gain more from the experience than a perfect career image and extra cash to put in her Tory Burch wallet . . .
I received this eBook from Aven Ellis – not for a review but as a thank you for loving her book Waiting for Prince Harry (I can highly recommend this one – I have reviewed it). So thank you Aven!
This is a cute story between Deke and Avery. Avery is classed as a Fashionista as she lives in Lincoln Park – it is known that people who live there, especially woman, are only there to find themselves a rich husband. This is something Avery dislikes, yes she likes fashion and likes to buy the brand stuff, but she wants more than just being at home and not have a career.
She works for an Airline – which is quite funny as she is afraid of flying! Of course no one knows that in this company. But when she’s asked to do a documentary for the company, she jumps to the chance to show the world that there’s more to this Fashionista they make her out to be!
Deacon, Deke, is the Videographer for this documentary and should follow Avery around on her daily stuff and work projects. He has an eye for detail and doesn’t miss a thing! After being around Avery for about an hr and being subjected to her awful roommate he thinks he’s having a private phonecall where Avery overhears him saying that he also has preconceptions of Avery. Of course she’s determined to fix this and is stubborn and shows Deke there’s more to her.
The story revolves around Deke following Avery and start to actually know her. During a Marketing meeting he gently pushes her to bring her ideas forward, gives her the confidence to speak up and stand behind her ideas. Even though Avery thinks she’s not allowed to as she’s not that long employed within the company as a Marketing Assistant. But this courage brings her so far in subjecting the idea of a Spa treatment/idea to the airline that it gives her the opportunity to pitch this idea further after rejection within the board room. She doesn’t give up and really shows that she stands behind her ideas. Her boss is very impressed, that she’s send to Manhattan (check this…) to pitch her idea before the whole board – even though she’s very happy this does means flying!
Deke to the rescue!! They want a strictly professional relationship but things changed for a while and even more when Deke thinks of the only thing he can do to calm Avery down – after finding out about her fear of flying!
Her roommate, Sarah, I disliked, but she’s a true Fashionista, her neighbour Sullivan is a right jerk and thinks bathing in cologne is the way forward! ^_^ Her best friend Bree is amazing and I loved her and hope she will find her true love as well.
Of course they have their ups and downs and are trying to make this work whilst dealing with all the insecurities and preconceptions – but I just loved their story! Absolutely adored it and their journey and it made me think of my own story. I also have to deal with a lot of preconceptions on a daily basis and I am also fierce and determined to show people different.
I absolutely love Aven’s writing and I can highly recommend this book as well. Book two in this series is released on 19 December 2014 and is called: Surviving the Rachel – Read all about Bree! Yaaay!
