Book Review: The Fault in our Stars

The Fault in our Stars – John Green

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

My thoughts:

What to say about this book other than wow, just wow! And besides that I’m pretty sure I still am not able to sum up perfectly what I’m thinking, but below is close enough. Still too many emotions!

John Green is an extraordinary writer who captured this story very well, I was on an emotional rollercoaster from the moment I started reading. Hazel is such a lovely young woman, so bright, smart and intellectual. Augustus, or Gus, is fabulous with his always fun and kind spirit, his humour about the situation and his devotion to Hazel and Isaac as well.

Not only the story between Hazel and Gus was amazing and fun to read, the story between the 3 friends: Hazel, Gus and Isaac and not to mention their parents were nice, fun and lovely to read.

I think the struggles as a teenager, with or without cancer, has been captured. I might have been biased as part of the story is in Amsterdam (not going to give spoilers) but as I’m born and raised in Amsterdam I can really picture where they’ve been what they’ve done where they’ve walked and that made the story even more intense for me.

I would highly recommend reading this book, it opens your eyes it takes you on this amazingly fantastically emotionally rollercoaster and you will be thinking for a long time about the main 3: Gus, Hazel and Isaac, but also their parents. How are they coping etc.

A very intense story for a Young Adult book. Loved it! I also can’t wait for the film to be released in June this year.
